Cruising Van Nuys Blvd. in the late 1970s VNB Cruising History

Pontiac Tempest
When cruising Van Nuys Boulevard first became “the thing to do” in the Northwest portion of the City of Los Angeles, California, is somewhat nebulous. Various posts on the Internet and elsewhere relate remembrances from the 1950s and on through the 1960s. But there is no doubt that it was in full-swing during the 1970s. In 1979, a movie was released entitled “Van Nuys Blvd.” about a small-town kid who travels down to the San Fernando Valley to check out the cruising scene (additional information about this movie can be found on IMDb.com). Due to merchant complaints and law enforcement requirements, cruising Van Nuys Blvd. came to an end around 1981 and so did an era in the history of the San Fernando Valley.
